After years of ignorance and neglect it is only now realised that not all fatty food is bad for you.
The bad fat is saturated fat which can build up in your arteries and eventaully lead to coronary heart disease, angina and even a heart attack.
Your body needs good fat which includes these EFA's (or essential fatty acids). Mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fats are a healther choice. There is a link between cancer and regular consumption of fried or barbequed food.
No, but remember the bad fat content and use as little as you can manage. The same goes for dripping which is also considered bad fat. The right kinds of fats in your diet will help prevent disease such as arthritis, cancer and heart disease.Olive oil products contain theses EFA's which explains why those who have it also seem to suffer less serious disease while those of us eating too much junk have health problems much sooner in life.
These ilnesses are degenerative which means you can't turn back your body clock to eternal youth setting. Once you get this far, no number of popping vitamin pills will turn back the internal body clock. However you can slow the clock down with a good diet. You can have the ocassional weekend treat, just don't treat yourself three times daily.
Olive oil health
It is no coincidence that people from mediterranean countries have longer lives due to combining the oil with a high intake of fresh fruit and vegetables. It may delay the onset of other illnesses such as dementia. Now as never before governments are trying to promote healthy living as health costs soar. Oily fish such as salmon and mackeral contain omega3 fatty acids. Some nuts and seeds have a healthy oil content with omega6 fatty acids. Both are important to good health.
There is a daily limit to the amount of olive oil to sprinkle on your food or cook with as it is high in calories. While butter is considered bad due to the high saturated fat content, olive oil also has this too. Extra virgin olive oil is the first pressing of the olives, so has the highest amount of the EFA's.
This is another reason why nursing mothers are advised where possible, to breast feed newborns - the milk contains EFA's. Some people prefer to take omega3 supplements rather than oils or fish.
