How should people with acne or pimples care for their skin?

Wash gently wash their skin with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once in the evening and after heavy exercise. You should not resort to scrubbing the skin as it can make acne symptoms worse.

It is important that after you use a cleanser that you was and rinse your skin thoroughly. Astringent products are very strong and not the first choice for acne skin care. If you do regular intensive exercise routines or have very oily skin, then shampooing more frequently would be advised .

Try to avoid the temptation of picking at spots and pimples or you run the riskof developing scars or dark blotches. The sebaceous glands have become blocked and you should let them heal of their own accord. These blocked pores have bacteria known as P. acnes which are normally on the skin doing you no harm. They build up when hair follicles become blocked.

While acne vulgaris is common in the age range of 11 and up to 30 years old, it can still break out in older patients in the form of acne rosacea.

Okay should I use acne skin care products when using treatments or meds?

You should not try to use harsh treatments at first as they won't cure the problem any sooner. Pimples, blotches etc still need to heal. So avoid the highest strength of benzoyl peroxide products until you try the weaker versions first. You don 't want to dry out the skin.

Other acne products have salicylic acid which peels away at the skin causing skin pores to unblock. They should be used once daily until spots have definitely started to clear up. These can also make the skin dry so using a moisturiser is needed. This will keep unaffected skin from getting dry.

While sunlight is good for our wellbeing and mental mood (and production of vitamin D under the skin), too much exposure is no good to skin as premature ageing and skin damage will occur over time.

Pregnancy and acne skin care - what should I do ?

Pregnancy is a separate and involved medical issue - many issues for the health of the mother.

If you have currently being taking medications for acne you should stop taking them immediately if you have discovered you are pregnant.

Prescription medications for acne vulgaris can include skin treatments as well as tablets or capsules. Creams and ointments have active ingredients which can go through the skin such as adapalene or even tretinoin. Stop and seek counsel first.

In the event you have become pregnant while taking accutane/roaccutane stop immediately and seek medical opinon - this product is harmful to pregnancy.

Women are more prone to symptoms of acne during preganancy and it is common for an outbreak of pimples in those with an existing history of pimples and skin problems. Your skin can be more oily and lead to more blocked pores and not just on the face.

Use an oil-free facial cleanser, and avoid soaps that contain oils or other irritating substances.Avoid soap containing products.
